
Thelma Kennedy-Malveaux, a lifelong AME is a servant of God and is grateful for His many blessings. She is a native of Mobile, Alabama and the daughter of Mrs. Mary B. Kennedy and the late Sylvester Kennedy, Sr. Thelma is a graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile and graduated Suma Cum Laude and as Class Salutatorian with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Clark College in Atlanta, GA. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance with honors from The Ohio State University.
Thelma is a happily retired Global Business Executive after a 32-year career with ExxonMobil Corporation. She managed a vast global business portfolio with responsibilities for retail marketing strategies and overall business operating practices for ExxonMobil. This portfolio included $6B in sales revenue, over 20,000 employees and 2,000 stores in 33 countries on 5 continents. Managing this business unit required extensive global travel and helped to facilitate Thelma's passion to travel the world.
Thelma's educational journey and professional career provided her with opportunities to serve God and God's people in AME churches across the Connection. She was baptized at Metropolitan AME Church in Mobile, Al. in the Ninth Episcopal District and attended AME churches in the Sixth and Third Episcopal Districts. She has held membership in AME churches in Dallas and Houston in the Tenth Episcopal District. Thelma also spent more than a decade as a member of churches in Richmond and Manassas, VA in the Second Episcopal District. She is currently a member of Wesley AME Church in Houston, TX where she has served for more than thirty years.
Sister Kennedy-Malveaux is dedicated to Christian service in Lay ministry and has served at all levels of the AME church. In recognition of her service, she was twice honored as an Outstanding Layperson of the Year. Thelma has faithfully served in many church leadership positions including a Steward, Trustee, Women's Missionary Society, Stewardship Finance Commission, Church School Teacher and Lay Organization President. She is the immediate Past President of Wesley AME Church and currently serves as the Texas Conference Lay 2nd Vice President, Tenth Episcopal District Lay 3rd Vice President and Advisor to the Connectional Lay Organization President.
Thelma has always been active in professional, civic and charitable organizations including serving on several boards. These organizations include Diamond Life membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she serves as a member of the National Strategic Planning Committee. She has also served as a member of the Strategic Partnership Task Force. A life member of the Clark Atlanta University National Alumni Association, the National Urban League, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., the National Black MBA Association, and the Washington D.C. Area of the United Negro College Fund. These and other organizations facilitate Thelma's passion to "give back” and "pay it forward.”
Thelma has been married to Jerome Malveaux, III for 39 years. They have two wonderful daughters Phaizah Elizabeth, Qadera Malveaux-Smith and a son in love Gregory Smith, Jr. She emphasizes that above all God and Family take priority in her life and keeping that in perspective is what she cherishes the most!
